君はもうすでに「比較３原則」をマスターしているので、この単元は容易に理解できるだろうと思う。疑問詞を用いた比較にはパターンがあるので少しも難しくはない。比較級と最上級とに分けて解説してみる。
比 較 級
要は２人、あるいは２つのもののうちのどちらがより〜か？ をたずねる言い方。
人の場合 → Who is taller, you or Tom? ----- I am.
人以外 → Which is larger, the sun or the moon? ----- The sun is.
Which do you like better, tea or coffee? ----- I like coffee better.
Which book is more interesting, this or that? ----- That book is.
ここまで知っていればOK! それぞれの文をよく見てみると共通点がある。次のような公式が成り立つだろう。
最 上 級
３人以上、あるいは３つ以上のものの中から、誰が（どれが）一番〜か？ をたずねる言い方。
人の場合 → Who is the tallest in your class? ----- Tom is.
Who can run ( the ) fastest of the three. ----- Taro can.
人以外 → What sport do you like ( the ) best? ----- I like tennis ( the ) best.
Which season is the coldest? ----- Winter is.
まずはこのレベルまで知っておこう。もし不安なら上の例文すべてを暗唱してしまえばよい。原則は「読んで」「書いて」「続ける」ことだ。しっかりとマスターすること。
